Healthcare is a basic human right, and now, in the midst of COVID-19, the deficiencies of the current system are glaringly apparent. With nearly 15% of Georgians currently uninsured, it is imperative that we expand Medicaid and pass legislation to make prescription drugs more affordable. I will support funding for our exurban and rural hospitals who are feeling the crunch of this administration’s egregious assaults on the Affordable Care Act and Medicare.

We are in the middle of a real housing crisis. Our communities are growing rapidly and there isn’t enough affordable housing to keep up with that growth. We need to rethink the policies and regulations that are standing in the way of working-class citizens finding homes.

Every child deserves a quality education. I believe that if we want to create and cultivate tomorrow’s leaders and innovators, we need to invest in our public school system. I support teachers and am eager to get to work ensuring that the best education is within reach for all of our children.

Our state has one of the highest incarceration rates in the country, something that disproportionately impacts our communities of color. We need to reform the criminal justice system by eliminating discriminatory practices like cash bail and taking the money out of private for-profit prisons. We must focus on making re-entry to society easier as individuals find jobs, reconnect with family, and rejoin their communities.

Voting is a right but, sadly, many Georgians have been deprived of that right in the wake of targeted voter suppression efforts and partisan gerrymandering. Voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. I will work to restore polling places in communities that have been disenfranchised and make it easier for everyone to exercise their right to vote.

The ongoing pandemic and climate crisis have shown us the need for diversified farming interests. Unfortunately, little has been done to promote or protect urban farms. In my own experience of trying to open a flower farm on my land, I saw first-hand the many challenges small-operators face. We must provide greater assistance and remove the cumbersome restrictions and regulations that act as barriers to this line of work.

I am committed to expanding public transportation to better serve the changing needs of our community. Not only do better transit options reduce time spent in the car and away from home, they also mean greater connectivity to the Atlanta region which, in turn, leads to greater economic opportunities for more of our citizens
